Public Commission: Richard Bard Memorial
Richard Bard (1892-1969) was instrumental in building the Port of Hueneme and is considered the Father of the Port. The Oxnard Harbor District commissioned a heroic, monumental bronze portrait that would capture his character and depict the groundbreaking of the port for its 80th anniversary. The commissioning body requested that the sculpture of Mr. Bard depict him wearing a suit and holding a shovel, as shown in photographs of the historic groundbreaking. The completed statue stands at just over 7 feet tall and radiates strength and kindness.
